Choosing The Most Secure Lock For Your UPVC Door

Whether you’re just popping to the shops for an hour or are about to leave for a fortnight abroad, you’ll want to leave your home knowing it’s safe and secure.

More than three quarters (76%) of burglars enter a property through a door, and about a third of these intruders will just force the lock open, according to The Office for National Statistics.

So, when it comes to the security of your home, choosing the right UPVC door lock has a massive part to play.

Here at LockShop Direct, we supply three types of locks, perfect for use on external entry doors.

Multipoint locks

We’re the UK’s leading supplier of multipoint lock systems, providing door locks from top manufacturers, including Azbe and KFV.

Multipoint lock systems are the go-to choice for external door locks, thanks to their high levels of security.

Unlike a traditional door lock that locks in the middle, multipoint lock systems work by locking at three points along the door frame using one key. This key activates a series of camrollers and hook bolts, which in turn activate these additional locking points to create a tighter, more secure seal.

Anti-snap door cylinders

Anti-snap locks are a great addition to any home’s security system.

These locks can’t be snapped by burglars, therefore preventing anyone unwanted from entering your home.

Anti-snap door cylinders consist of two parts that are separated by an anti-snap barrier. If either part of the lock is compromised the other will remain intact, ensuring your home is still secure.

So, even if someone does try to access your home by tampering with your lock, you can continue to use it as one half will still provide security. However, we do recommend you get this replaced as soon as possible to ensure maximum security is provided.

Every anti-snap door lock supplied by LockShop Direct comes with a 10 year warranty.

Digital door locks

The most high-tech lock option available, digital door locks provide both protection and convenience.

The YALE smart lock, for example, has a built in tamper alarm and can connect with your current smart home system, providing maximum security.

Digital door locks are opened using a key card, key tag or mobile app, making them perfect for use in this growing digital age.

And you’ll be happy to know they don’t rely purely on wifi. So, if your wifi goes down, you will still be able to unlock your home as your phone will connect via Bluetooth.

Hookbolt locks

Hookbolt locks used to be a popular all-round external door lock choice. They are now most commonly used in patio door locking systems as they work well with both sliding and hinged doors.

These locks secure your door at one point along the door frame and the way they work is really simple. When the key is turned in the lock a bolt rotates upwards, hooking into the doorframe, securing the door.
