It might not seem like it but your kitchen might be your secret weapon to help beat the burglars. Most thieves will give the kitchen a quick look over during a robbery, particularly for car keys lying around or in drawers nearest the door where most of us leave them. However the rest of the kitchen with cupboards full of food and heavy white goods hold little interest for them. So with this in mind we think we have come up with a couple of ways to use your kitchen to your advantage. A safe hiding place Most people will get their home safe installed in their bedroom or garage but these are places that are on the burglar’s hit list. So instead why not get your safe installed at the back of one of your kitchen cupboards? Chances are the burglar won’t even look in these cupboards and even if they do, if they are greeted by cans of soup or boxes of cereal which you have stacked in front of the safe they will quickly shut the door and move on. A red herring Another good way to outfox the burglar is to stop keeping your car keys in a kitchen drawer and start keeping them in a decoy safe. There are a range available that are made to look like tins of beans, soup and spaghetti. They are easy to use with the bottom simply screwing off allowing you to store keys or other small items in them out of site. Decoy safes are recognised by the police and neighbourhood watches as great ways of reducing theft. Burglars don’t spend long in your home during a break-in and won’t have time to check every kitchen cupboard or every tin to see if it is a decoy. So by doing the above you are making life hard for them and keeping your key valuables out of their hands.
