Unican locks can also be known as Dorma locks, Kaba locks or Simplex locks. The Unican brand has now been discontinued and trades under the name ‘Kaba’ or ‘DormaKaba’ but you can still find Unican replacement locks, here at LockShop Direct.
Unican – about the brand
An American company, Simplex, was founded in 1961 and renowned for producing quality push button locks. Unican recognised what was a good idea and decided to buy Simplex – and their locks became ‘Unican-Simplex’.
A few years later, Independent Lock Co, ILCO, bought Unican and locks were known as ‘Ilco Simplex’ until 2001 when Canadian company, Kaba, bough Ilco Unican. The company was then called Kaba-Ilco. Finally, in 2016, Kaba and Dorma merged to form ‘DormaKaba’.

Included in our range of Kaba locks, you’ll discover the Kaba Powerplex 2000 digital lock. It provides easy programming and is suitable for multiple users (up to 100 codes).
The Kaba digital lock is based on the PowerStar technology which has been around for more than 10 years. It’s designed to store power for longer and more efficiently. It’s ideal for small to medium-sized facilities that are only accessible for staff members (authorised personnel).
With the Powerplex 2000, you have the option to change the code on the door and there is a key override. The digital lock can be right or left-handed and is operated from the outside using a code and a lever on the inside.
