How Do Pad Bolts Work?

Padbolts are both easy to use and attach – and most DIY enthusiasts will be able to fit one to a door or gate without trouble or specialist tools.

The metal bolt slides across and engages to hold the door or gate firmly in place. Once engaged, the door will remain closed until the bolt is slid back in the opposite direction. The latch can then be pulled down to sit flat beneath the loop on the bolt.

Although the door will be fastened shut at this point, you can secure it further by fitting a padlock through the lock, preventing the bolt from being forced open or tampered with.
