New locksmiths tool from E3 Locks

Duffells have just taken delivery of the new E3 Locks 2in1 Pick Pointer tool.
Dave Kneafsey of E3 locks explains how it works…
“A pointer is the must have accessory for picking with a 2 in 1 pick, be it on a safe lock like an 11 lever Mauer Variator or even for opening a 5 lever on a Sitex door.
The pointer fits over the end of the pick and then tightens in place on to the outer shaft. Fit it so that when the lever lifter is closest to the bolt thrower, the pointer is as close to the door as possible. This helps remove any chance of parallax error.
The pointer wire which is made from piano wire can then be pushed snuggly down in to the pre-drilled hole in the top of the screw. Although a different length wire could be used the length supplied should be capable of indicating even slight difference in the lock.
To mark your findings you can stick 2 inch masking tape on the door, or prepare you own charts, which you can use to ID the true and false gates of your lock.
Having started picking, say that lever 2 binds first and as you lift it you feel it go in to gate. You would then mark on the door the position of the indicator wire together with the number 2.
You now know that every time you lift lever 2 to the marked position it will be in its gate.
Say you now have 3 of your 5 levers in gate and marked on the door, but you then lose the pack and all the levers drop, you can now use your pointer to simply go back and park all of your levers back in their know gates.
When you have opened the lock, you can simply pull the masking tape off the door and write 'Lock picked open' on your customers invoice.”
