The Briton 3934 electromagnetic door closer is a high-performance overhead closer designed to provide controlled door operation while integrating seamlessly with modern fire safety systems. Suitable for use on internal fire doors in high traffic environments such as schools, hospitals, and commercial buildings, it offers both hold open and swing free functionality. The unit operates via a 24V DC connection to a building’s fire alarm or smoke detection system, allowing the door to remain open during normal use and automatically close when the alarm is triggered or power is lost. With adjustable closing speed, latch action, and an EN 3–4 power size, it can accommodate doors up to 1100mm wide and 80kg, ensuring reliable and adaptable performance. The electromagnetic hold open mechanism is controlled by the fire alarm system, releasing the door in the event of activation so that it closes securely to restrict the spread of fire and smoke. This makes it particularly suitable for environments where accessibility is required without compromising compartmentation. Its UKCA and CE marked and fully compliant with EN 1154 (controlled door closing devices) and EN 1155 (electrically powered hold-open devices). It complies with accessibility guidance such as Approved Document M, is Certifire approved (CF5598) and has been fire tested in accordance with EN 1634-1 for use on timber fire doors, achieving up to a 2-hour (120-minute) fire resistance rating, making it suitable to be confidently specified as part of a compliant fire door assembly.
