Product Information

This Mila Standard multipoint door lock features 4 Rollers, 2 Hooks, 1 Deadbolt & 1 Latch.

This Mila multipoint door lock has a latch and deadbolt in the centre gearbox, 2 hooks and 4 rollers for locking points located along the flat 16mm faceplate. The distance between inner rollers is 680mm and the distance between the outer rollers is 1585mm. The distance between the hooks is 1190mm.

Mila multipoint door locks were very widely specified on residential doors until the mid 2000's. While this classic lock is not part of Mila's current range of UPVC door locks, they are still available, manufactured by the same factory that originally made them in Italy.

Identifying a classic Mila UPVC door lock is easy once the lock is out of the door. The shape of the gearbox is very distinctive, featuring triangular corners. Identifying the lock before it has been removed can be a little more tricky as these locks were rebranded by a number of different door and window companies. The lock may be stamped Mila, but could also have Coldseal, Barratt, Iseo or Swiftframe on the faceplate. Regardless of the branding, they are all the same lock underneath.

As a result of these locks being used by a wide range of different manufacturers, many insisted on their own locking position spacing. That has lead to quite a few different versions, not all of which are still available. If your lock does not match the measurements on our specification, it may be possible to move the keeps to accept the closest alternative or to utilise a replacement gearbox to repair the existing lock.

Mila gearboxes are available in both latch only and latch and deadbolt configurations, with a double or spindle spindle.

Latch only versions are always single spindle and are available in 25mm, 28mm, 35mm and 45mm backsets. Latch and deadbolt versions with a single spindle (92mm PZ) are available in 35mm and 45mm backsets and double spindles are available with a 35mm backset only. The double spindle lock features a 70mm/ 92mm PZ measurement.

Despite the various backsets and operation options, the dimensions of Mila gearboxes are largely the same. They measure 233mm high by the backset + 20mm wide. The latch measures 20mm high, the deadbolt is 30mm high and there is 80mm between the bottom of the latch and the top of the deadbolt.

Please note that some older locks feature an offset, or cranked connector. This is only an issue when replacing a gearbox, rather than a full length lock, but its an important point to consider. Replacement gearboxes are now only available with inline connectors. They are still compatible with older locks but it will be necessary to adapt the drive gear that runs behind the faceplate. Follow our technical guide on the process, but there is a square hole in the drive gear which needs to be cut to create a slot to ensure that the lock works.

Original Mila hooks are either bi-directional, with the top hook moving downwards, and the bottom hook moving upwards, or with both hooks moving upwards. Hook cases measure 95mm high by 45mm wide, making them one of the smaller hook cases on the market. If the door routing is tight, this can require work to allow a replacement hook lock to fit.

Rollers are used for compression, to pull the door against the frame, to help prevent dust or water ingress. They do little for security, but they also have the added benefit of helping to prevent the door from becoming warped as it is supported across its full height. This is dependent on the rollers being engaged into their keeps.

Rollers are normally adjustable by 1mm to help achieve optimum weather sealing.

Operation: Double Spindle

To lock the door

1. On closing the door, the latch is automatically engaged.

2. Lift the handle up to engage the locking points.

3. Lock the system by turning the key.

To unlock the door

1. Unlock the system by turning the key.

2. Push the handle downwards to disengage the locking points.

3. A further quarter turn of the key will retract the latch.

We stock a range of associated products for Mila Standard multipoint door locks, including keeps, spindles, handles and accessories.

Latch Reversal: Undo the screw in the side of the lock case to remove the latch, reverse, reinsert and replace the screw.

You may find this lock used as an UPVC door lock or an aluminium door lock.
